Israel establishes directorate to create 40 settlement points along eastern border
Israel's Ministry of Defense has established the "Eastern Region Directorate" to advance plans for creating approximately 40 new settlement points with armed civilians along the country's eastern border, from Tzemach junction in the north to Hevel Eilot in the south. Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram stated the eastern region has been identified as a security vulnerability, citing potential threats from Iran and its proxies. The directorate head, Brig. Gen. (res.) Mordechai Benita, outlined plans for security-oriented settlements to complement military defenses, requiring inter-ministerial cooperation to develop infrastructure and bring tens of thousands of new residents to the region.
