Israel Kills Three Former Shalit Deal Prisoners in Gaza Strike
The Hamas-run Prisoners’ Affairs Ministry in Gaza announced that three former prisoners released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit exchange deal were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip. The deceased were identified as Mahdi Shaour and Ayman Abu Daoud, both from Hebron, and Bassam Abu Sunina from East Jerusalem. All three had been deported to Gaza following their release more than a decade ago. The targeted strike comes amid heightened Israeli operations across the Strip, as the IDF continues its campaign against senior Hamas operatives and infrastructure. It also underscores the enduring legacy of the Shalit deal, in which over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners were exchanged for a single Israeli soldier, many of whom later returned to terror activity according to Israeli intelligence assessments.
