Israel Prepared To Lose 10 Fighter Jets in Recent War
During one of the Israeli Air Force’s strikes in Iran, a pilot in a Baz aircraft found himself over Tehran’s skies with a fuel tank malfunction, moments away from needing an emergency landing. The control room prepared for an attempt to land the plane in a neighboring country, and a refueling aircraft was scrambled (only some strikes were accompanied by refueling planes). The issue was resolved, and the control room breathed a sigh of relief. The reference scenario the Israeli Air Force prepared for before the attack was the potential loss of ten Israeli planes in the first 72 hours. Major General Tomer Bar visited squadron commanders to prepare them for this possibility. In the end, the opening strike, which heavily damaged Iranian anti-aircraft defenses, did its job, and no planes were shot down.
