Israeli Strike Near Qaraoun Dam Prompts Lebanese Appeal to US
An Israeli strike hit near the Qaraoun Dam on Lake Qaraoun in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley. Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar reports that official Lebanese sources contacted the US following strikes in the area, warning that a dam collapse would cause catastrophic flooding. The dam's destruction could release over 70,000 cubic meters of water per second at 45 km/h, potentially devastating villages along the Litani River from Beqaa to southern Lebanon, including Qaraoun, Suhmor, Baalloul, and several other communities.
