Knesset Speaker election expected in 12 days, opposition agrees on selection process
Knesset Speaker Ohana is estimated to convene the Knesset in a week to elect a new Speaker, with the session expected in 12 days. Opposition party leaders agreed the designated Speaker will be chosen shortly before the session, with the candidate to be appointed permanently alongside government formation. Disagreement remains over who should fill the role. Eisenkot stated he wants to present a government as soon as possible. The main obstacle is Lieberman's refusal, along with other Yashar and Beyachad members, to swear in a government with Arab party votes. Negotiations with ultra-Orthodox parties remain in very early stages.
