Last-Minute Change in Prisoner Release Deal
According to a first report by Eliya Aviv, last-minute changes by Israeli security officials are affecting the planned prisoner release as part of the deal with Hamas. Under the new arrangement, the number of terrorists to be released in Judea and Samaria has been reduced to 74 from the originally agreed 101, while only 4 militants will be released in Jerusalem instead of 10. The remaining prisoners will be deported to Egypt and other Arab countries, in line with the terms of the deal. Security officials noted that the change came following pressure from senior figures in the defense establishment, who preferred to reduce the number of prisoners remaining inside Israel and transfer part of them abroad. International mediators and leaders are closely monitoring the developments as the implementation of the deal approaches, while families await the release of hostages.
