Marco Rubio Warns Julani-Led Government

U.S. Secretary of State: “If senior figures in Damascus hope to achieve a united and peaceful Syria—free of ISIS and Iranian influence—they must use their security forces to stop the entry of ISIS and other extremists into the area and prevent a massacre.” (ISNA) But this statement reveals the depth of American naivety. Washington continues to operate under the illusion that Syria’s national army and ISIS are separate entities. It refuses to acknowledge what many in the region already know: that Julani’s forces are the militia. The U.S. isn’t solely to blame—global media has largely ignored damning footage from Suwayda showing the massacre carried out by men in Syrian military uniforms.
