Mauritania’s President May Meet Netanyahu
A U.S. report claims Mauritania’s President is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today, in what would mark a major diplomatic development after ties were severed in 2010 following Operation Cast Lead. The reported meeting comes as several African leaders gather in Washington for regional talks. However, the Prime Minister’s Office quickly responded, saying it is “unaware of any such meeting.” Mauritania cut relations with Israel 15 years ago, and any move toward renewed engagement would signal a significant shift.
