Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wins Senate primary, received donations from CAIR members
Abdul El-Sayed, from the Democratic Party's anti-Israel wing, won Michigan's Senate primary, defeating pro-Israel candidate Haley Stevens. His campaign received over $115,000 from 41 individuals affiliated with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR has been designated a terrorist organization by the UAE and classified as such in Florida and Texas, with alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Among donors was CAIR CEO Nihad Awad, who drew condemnation after saying he was "happy" to see Hamas "break out" on October 7, 2023, and claiming Israel "has no right to self-defense."
