Netanyahu pushes for late October election date amid coalition dispute

A decision on Israel's election date is nearing, with coalition parties divided over timing. Likud is pushing for elections on October 20 or 27, seeking the latest possible date. Shas prefers September 15, two days after Rosh Hashanah, when yeshiva students are in session and crowds gather for revival events and Selichot prayers. Netanyahu is currently using his influence to ensure elections are held after the Jewish holidays rather than during them.
