Norwegian teen sentenced to 20 years for Iran-directed murder plot in UK

Johannes Netland, a 19-year-old Norwegian, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a London criminal court for conspiracy to commit murder in an Iran-directed plot. He was arrested in March 2025 at a hotel in northern England with two firearms and ammunition. Prosecutors stated he was recruited through Foxtrot, a Swedish organized crime network allegedly operated by Iran. While Netland admitted possessing the weapons and ammunition, he denied intending to carry out a killing. A retrial in July found him guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.
