PM and Katz on Israeli strikes on Syrian Regime

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement Monday evening following the Syrian regime’s assault on Druze communities in the Suwayda region of southern Syria. According to the statement, the two leaders instructed the IDF to immediately strike regime forces and weaponry deployed to the Suwayda area — a violation of the longstanding demilitarization policy for southern Syria meant to reduce threats near Israel’s border. “Israel is committed to preventing harm to the Druze in Syria due to the deep brotherly alliance with our Druze citizens, and the historical and familial ties with the Druze across the border,” the statement said. “We are acting to prevent the Syrian regime from attacking them and to ensure the continued demilitarization of the area adjacent to our border.”
