Quiet Understandings Between IDF and Haredi Leaders Halt Arrests
The recent halt in arrests of Haredim stems from quiet understandings reached between the IDF and ultra-Orthodox leaders. According to a senior figure in United Torah Judaism, the informal agreement is: “You don’t protest — we don’t arrest.” Rabbi Lando’s position, the source added, is that as long as yeshiva study can continue without the risk of arrest, there is no need to launch a public struggle. Any confrontation, they emphasized, would be only over pre-planned arrests, not incidental clashes with authorities such as during travel abroad to Uman. The IDF has not issued a response.
