A Tehran hardliner has moved to impeach Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for meeting US envoy Steve Witkoff during the UN General Assembly, according to open-source intelligence monitors tracking Iranian parliamentary proceedings.
Tehran MP Amirhossein Sabeti submitted the motion, claiming Araghchi's meetings with American officials in New York lacked authorization from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and violated Iran's policy framework. The motion now requires submission to the parliamentary leadership.
The impeachment push signals internal pressure on nuclear negotiations that bear directly on Israel's security. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the Iranian delegation out of New York earlier this month after indirect talks reached a dead end, while President Trump delivered an ultimatum to Tehran: make a deal or face destruction.
