Top IDF General Steps Down After 'Mission of My Life'

After successfully completing the war with Iran — which he called “the mission of my life” — Maj. Gen. Oded Basiuk has concluded four years as Head of the Operations Directorate and 34 years of service in the IDF. Basiuk announced his retirement several months ago due to his share of responsibility for the events of October 7. Maj. Gen. Itzik Cohen, who led Division 162 with distinction during the war and fought continuously in Gaza for over a year and a half, has assumed the role of Head of the Operations Directorate — considered the third most important position in the IDF.
