President Donald Trump is currently addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, speaking second after Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who used his platform to praise arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat.
The American president opened his remarks by describing America's strength under his leadership, declaring the nation "stronger than ever before."
A substantial portion of the speech's opening focused on Iran, with Trump detailing the military operations the United States has conducted against the Islamic Republic.
From excerpts of Trump's speech released to the media:
"In America, we just marked 25 years since the worst terror attack in history, on September 11th, when 3,000 people were killed just a few miles from here. In two weeks, we will mark the third anniversary of the October 7th attack in Israel, when Iranian-funded terrorists tortured, abused, and murdered 1,200 innocent civilians, including dozens of Americans.
Iran's Supreme Leader celebrated the massacre and called it 'a service to humanity.' That same regime has butchered more than 72,000 of its own citizens this year. Just imagine if such a despicable regime were ever to gain the ability to carry out large-scale terror attacks under a nuclear umbrella. That was the reality we were forced to confront—a reality too many preferred to ignore.
I want to thank the UN Security Council for voting overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution condemning Iran's abhorrent terror attacks against commercial shipping. I am pleased to say that this resolution received support from more UN member states than any other Security Council resolution in history.
The United States will no longer allow threats to America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. And if necessary, we will use our unmatched military power to defend the vital national interests of the United States.
