Trump: Iranian plot to bomb US bomber base in UK foiled

President Donald Trump praised what he called a "fantastic success" after British security forces announced they had foiled a major plot to attack US military assets on British soil. The operation, disclosed earlier today, targeted American strategic bombers stationed at a Royal Air Force base in England.

"We did an amazing job, we investigated around them and tracked them for a long time," Trump told reporters. "I don't know who it was in Britain, maybe Scotland Yard, we worked with a lot of them, but it was a big success."

The president revealed details of the thwarted attack: "They tried to do heavy damage to our base, tried to do big damage to our 'fortress.' We tracked them for a long time and caught them."

British Home Security declared an emergency in the early morning hours in the village of Fairford and its surroundings, near a US Air Force base housing B-1 Lancer strategic bombers. After several tense hours that included evacuations of residential and industrial areas, authorities arrested several men described as participants in planning and attempting to carry out an unprecedented terror attack.

According to published information and current investigative assessments, the arrested suspects were Iranian operatives tasked with carrying out a massive suicide bombing. The plan called for ramming into the base aboard 4X4 vehicles loaded with explosives and wrapped in improvised armor, with the goal of destroying the American strategic bomber fleet that had participated in multiple strikes against Iran while the aircraft were on the ground.

Under the plan, the Iranian operatives were to penetrate the base and detonate the vehicles in strategic areas including fuel depots, parts warehouses, and the bomber hangars themselves.

Investigators now assess that the Iranian regime stands directly behind the brazen sabotage attempt, though they are also examining possible Russian connections to the operation, or even state-level cooperation between the two powers.
