Three days after the deadly security incident in the Gaza Strip, the commander of the IDF Ground Forces ordered on Sunday that all IDF units are prohibited from using attack drones for the entire coming week, through October 4, as a preventive measure.
The IDF said that next Sunday, following a situation assessment, the divisions will be permitted to resume using attack drones in accordance with required operations and reporting on their execution.
The ban comes as the IDF is still working to complete its investigation into the circumstances of the drone explosion last week in Gaza that led to the deaths of Res. Staff Sgt. Nadav Kali z"l and Res. Staff Sgt. Ofek Moalem z"l.
The Ground Forces commander is heading a team of experts examining the circumstances of the incident. Already last Friday, he decided to halt the use of attack drones in the Gaza Strip for 48 hours; now, following a situation assessment, the ban has been extended for an additional week.
