U.S. Envoy Expresses Optimism Following Beirut Talks

American envoy Tom Burke spoke optimistically following Lebanon’s formal reply to the U.S. peace proposal. “There’s an opportunity in the air, and no one is better than the Lebanese at recognizing opportunity,” he said just 45 minutes after receiving the response. Burke noted that President Trump “stands with Lebanon” and is committed to helping the country achieve peace and prosperity. “The region is evolving, and our neighboring countries are changing. It’s Lebanon’s moment now.” Describing Lebanon’s answer as “thoughtful and considered,” Burke revealed plans for a new diplomatic roadmap. “Everyone is tired of the past years’ turmoil. We now have a new structure to hold on to, but each side must make concessions.” Speaking directly to the Lebanese people, he added: “Change must come from within Lebanon. That’s the challenge. If you want chang: be the change. The U.S. is here to support you, not dictate.”
