Jordan’s King Abdullah II Criticizes Israeli Policies in Gaza and Iran While Facing Accusations of Bias and Economic Controversy

King Abdullah II addressed the European Parliament, condemning Israeli actions in Gaza and military strikes on Iran, describing Israeli policy as brutal and harmful to Palestinians. Critics argue he failed to hold Hamas accountable for the October 7 attacks, which killed over 1,300 Israelis, and that he overlooked Iran’s destabilizing role in the region. Allegations have been made against the Hashemite regime regarding economic gains linked to Gaza, fueling calls for political change in Jordan. The King’s references to historical and religious matters, including Jerusalem’s status, sparked further debate on his approach to Middle East peace. Despite the controversy, he emphasized the need for political solutions in the region, calling for the removal of destabilizing forces led by Iran and critiquing domestic governance. Jordan has received much criticism from the Islamic world for aiding Israel on many front, from airspace, to allowing citizens across their borders. Even so, Israel has been spending the last few weeks fortifying their border with Jordan in preparation for a possible multi-front attack from many angles
