Israeli Fire Kills 18 in Gaza, Hamas-Run Agency Reports
– Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defense agency reported that Israeli fire killed 15 people near an aid distribution site in central Gaza and three others by shelling near Gaza City. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) offered no comment. The timing of the aid site incident remains unclear, though the IDF previously warned Palestinians against approaching Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) routes from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., declaring them closed military zones. The GHF, however, may operate during those hours. The GHF has drawn criticism from the UN, foreign governments, and aid groups for failing to meet Gaza’s humanitarian needs and exposing aid seekers to frequent deadly incidents. Israel maintains the GHF is necessary to prevent aid from reaching Hamas.
