Iran May Exit Nuclear Treaty After U.S. Strikes Citing Article 10 Rights

Abbas Golroo, head of Iran’s Parliament Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran has the legal right to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) under Article 10, which permits exit if “extraordinary events have jeopardized the supreme interests” of a member state. This declaration follows recent U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. The NPT, effective since 1970, aims to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation and encourage peaceful nuclear development. The potential withdrawal is widely viewed as largely symbolic amid the collapse of negotiations and escalating conflict.
