UK Report: Pro-Scottish Independence Twitter Bots Went Silent Amid Israeli Cyberstrike on Iran
According to a report in the UK Defence Journal, dozens of Twitter accounts advocating for Scottish independence abruptly stopped posting on June 12—the same day Israel launched its military and cyber offensive against Iran. The accounts, which had previously posted hundreds of tweets weekly, fell completely silent just as Iranian internet infrastructure came under attack and restrictions were imposed. The journal suggests the accounts were likely Iranian-operated bots, part of a broader strategy to destabilize Western rivals by fueling internal divisions. The sudden disappearance of their activity, coinciding with the Israeli cyber assault, supports growing concerns over state-sponsored digital influence operations.
