Haredim Threaten Vote Boycott Amid Draft Law Crisis
The Haredi community is threatening to resume boycotting votes on private bills and prolong the political crisis until Prime Minister Netanyahu presents a new draft law on military conscription. Netanyahu is reportedly pressuring Health Minister Edelstein to propose a version that could resolve the dispute with the ultra-Orthodox. However, insiders believe there is little intention to finalize legislation, with the move aimed mainly at easing political pressure. Presenting a viable draft is complicated, as veteran service organizations demand significant legislative changes. Edelstein has privately indicated his agreement to this approach primarily to prevent the law from passing, which could trigger a Knesset dissolution just before the Iran strike.
