IDF Top Brass to Urge Netanyahu, Katz: Decide Gaza War’s Future

Senior IDF leadership will press Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz to make clear decisions on the direction of the war in Gaza, according to Israel Hayom. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz are set to meet today with the IDF General Staff to review the outcomes of Operation Am K’Lavi, the 12-day campaign against Iran. The forum will also shift focus to Gaza, where the military is seeking urgent guidance on how to proceed. Top commanders told the political echelon that the IDF now controls roughly 70–75% of the Gaza Strip. Advancing further, they cautioned, could endanger hostages still held by terror factions. The military is prioritizing a potential hostage deal, but without political direction, officials say they are constrained in shaping next steps. The government must now decide between establishing direct military governance in Gaza or continuing the current siege and attritional approach. Since early June, 20 IDF soldiers have been killed in Gaza—mirroring estimates of the number of living hostages. Security officials warn that delay in setting policy could deepen the strategic limbo.
