Ethiopia to Launch Controversial Nile Dam in September

The Prime Minister of Ethiopia announced that his country will inaugurate the Grand Renaissance Dam in September, which will power the largest hydroelectric station in Africa. This is considered Ethiopia’s flagship project on the Blue Nile—a project seen by Egypt and Sudan as a threat to their water supply from the Nile. Negotiations between the parties have yielded no results in recent years.
