In a post published an hour ago, Trump wrote: “Brazil is doing something terrible in the way they are treating former President Jair Bolsonaro. I have watched, as has the world, how they do nothing but persecute him, day after day, night after night, month after month, year after year!He is not guilty of anything, except fighting for the people. I got to know Jair Bolsonaro, and he was a strong leader who truly loved his country—and also negotiated tough on trade issues.The elections were very close, and now, he is leading in the polls. This is an attack on a political rival—something I know all too well! ... The wonderful people of Brazil will not tolerate what they are doing to their former president.I will closely follow the witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro, his family, and thousands of his supporters. The only trial that should take place in Brazil is the trial of the voter—it’s called elections. Give Bolsonaro a break!”
