Israel Planning New ‘Humanitarian City’ in Rafah, Says Katz

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he has instructed the IDF and Defense Ministry to prepare a plan for establishing a new “humanitarian city” in the ruins of Rafah, southern Gaza. According to Katz, the area is intended to host around 600,000 Palestinians from nearby Mawasi, following security screenings to prevent infiltration by Hamas operatives. The proposed enclave would be administered by international organizations, not the Israeli military. The IDF, Katz said, would secure the area from a distance and construct four additional aid distribution hubs. He also reaffirmed his stance supporting the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians from Gaza. Katz noted that the IDF currently maintains control over roughly 70% of the territory.
