Hezbollah Ally Warns Against New Ceasefire Concessions
On Friday, Ibrahim al-Amin, editor of the Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, published a pointed op-ed titled, “Beware of Repeating the Mistakes of the Pre-Ceasefire Negotiations in Lebanon: Who Said Disarmament Is Even Up for Discussion?” In the column, al-Amin harshly criticizes the November ceasefire deal, arguing it was disconnected from the realities on the ground and cautioning against further concessions in any new agreement. He reveals discontent within Hezbollah’s base, with some blaming “the resistance” for having accepted the previous terms. While not naming names, al-Amin’s critique appears aimed at a key Hezbollah ally—Shiite Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri—who, amid political weakness at the time, was seen as having effectively dictated the terms of that earlier agreement.
