Smotrich: Retreat in Hostage Deal Would Betray Soldiers, Families

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich issued a sharp warning to his associates regarding reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might be open to withdrawing from areas captured by Israeli soldiers in a potential hostage deal. “If, God forbid, these reports are true, such a retreat would be a grave betrayal of our fighters and the families who have sacrificed everything, breaking the commitments made to them,” Smotrich stated. He continued, “Withdrawing from territories repeatedly won with the blood of our soldiers, allowing the enemy to re-enter, rearm, and fortify, only to send our fighters to recapture them again, is an illogical and immoral slap in the face.”Smotrich canceled most of his scheduled meetings today and is holding a series of urgent consultations.
