Golani Commandos Escape Hamas Kidnapping Attempt
What could have ended in tragedy turned into a near-miraculous escape for an elite IDF unit earlier this week, after Hamas operatives failed to execute a complex abduction plot against Golani Reconnaissance soldiers. According to newly reviewed debriefings and video footage from the scene, Hamas fighters had meticulously planned to kidnap Israeli troops from inside a building in the Gaza Strip. The plan involved a multi-layered ambush: a first IDF jeep was meant to drive over a hidden explosive, followed by a second vehicle — which would then come under coordinated fire from three Hamas gunmen lying in wait. The ambush was designed in deadly detail, complete with a pre-dug tunnel constructed specifically to facilitate the abduction and smuggle the soldiers into the depths of Gaza. But a delay of just one and a half seconds — an almost imperceptible misfire in the attackers' timing — disrupted the entire operation. The explosives detonated too late, causing only minor injuries to a handful of soldiers. The intended kidnapping never occurred.
