Netanyahu Pushes Back on IDF Plan, Demands Faster, Cheaper “Humanitarian City”

In a closed-door meeting of Israel’s security cabinet on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the Defense Ministry and IDF's proposed timeline for building a "humanitarian city" in Gaza, calling it unfeasible and a deliberate attempt to stall the project. According to sources present, the military's plan outlined a construction period of at least a year, with projected costs in the tens of billions of shekels—far longer than the six months previously reported. The proposal triggered sharp debate between political leaders and defense officials. Netanyahu, who signaled readiness to move toward a ceasefire and hostage deal, stated that military operations could resume after a pause. But he insisted the humanitarian zone must be executable. He then instructed planners to present a much leaner, faster, and cheaper version of the initiative by Monday.
