IDF Eliminate Hamas Operatives Behind 1990s Terror Attacks
In a joint operation, Israel's Shin Bet and the IDF have killed three Hamas operatives involved in deadly attacks in the 1990s, security officials announced Monday. The men — Riyad Asila, Bassam Abu Sanina, and Mahmoud Sariya — were expelled to Gaza under the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner swap and had continued to plot attacks from the Strip. According to the statement, Asila and his cell were responsible for the 1998 murder of Israeli civilian Chaim Kerman in Jerusalem, and the 1996 killing of IDF Staff Sergeant Ehud (Udi) Tal at the Dothan Coordination and Liaison Administration. The targeted operation comes amid renewed concerns over the long-term impact of the Shalit deal, which saw over 1,000 prisoners released in exchange for a single Israeli soldier.
