All Hasmonean Battalion Recruits to Enter Officer Track in Rare IDF Move

In an unusual step, all 60 conscripts from the first regular company of the IDF’s ultra-Orthodox Hasmonean Battalion will be directed to commander training, journalist Mendy Rizel reports. Following basic training, which concludes in about two months, the soldiers will begin a squad commanders’ course at the battalion’s training base in the Jordan Valley. The move aims to build a new cadre of Haredi officers—addressing a long-standing gap, as most current commanders in ultra-Orthodox frameworks are either Religious Zionist or non-observant.
