US Foreign Ministry re-issues travel warning for Syria

As violent clashes involving Druze and Bedouin tribes escalate in southern Syria, concerns are growing that the country may once again descend into widespread internal conflict. The U.S. State Department has maintained its Level 4 travel advisory — “Do Not Travel” — for Syria, citing ongoing risks of armed conflict and violence. In an updated alert, the State Department urged American citizens still in Syria to leave immediately. U.S. nationals are advised that overland exit to Jordan remains possible, with visas available upon arrival. Commercial flights continue to operate from airports in Damascus and Aleppo. “For those unable to leave,” the statement said, “seek shelter in place.”
