Iranian Lawmaker: Here's what will happen if snapback sanctions triggered
Abbas Golrou, a member of Iran’s parliament serving on the national security committee, warned Tuesday that Tehran may consider withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) if the U.N. snapback sanctions mechanism is activated. “If the snapback mechanism is activated, we have various tools and options to respond, one of which is leaving the NPT,” Golrou said, signaling a potential escalation in Iran’s standoff with Western powers over its nuclear program. The NPT is a cornerstone of global efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. Withdrawal by Iran would heighten international concern that Tehran is seeking to advance its nuclear capabilities unchecked.
