El Al's stocks tumble
El Al’s stock tumbled today (Thursday) by about 7.5%, amid a wave of investor sell-offs seeking to realize gains after sharp increases over the past two years. The company’s market value stands at 7.9 billion shekels, a level unprecedented in its history. Since October 7, 2023, El Al’s stock has soared 300%. It rose 80% since the start of 2025 and jumped 142% over the past year. The rise was driven by the absence of international airlines at Ben Gurion Airport over the past two years, leaving El Al with almost no competition on many routes. Now, with a potential agreement to end the war in Gaza taking shape, investors fear the situation may change. “The market understands that the agreement to end the war in Gaza — which will likely also stop missile fire from Yemen — will bring many international airlines back,” said Udi Aloni, CEO of the investment site Pandar. “Competition for El Al will increase, and it will have to lower ticket prices, which will hurt revenues.”
