Trump Says He Abandoned Plan for Military Operation to Remove Enriched Uranium from Iran
President Trump stated he canceled a military operation intended to extract enriched uranium from Iran by U.S. forces due to concerns about potential harm to American personnel. He explained the operation would have required approximately two weeks to excavate the enriched uranium from its underground location, giving Iranians time to discover and attack the forces. Trump said he did not want to repeat the experience of President Jimmy Carter, during whose administration Americans died in a failed hostage rescue attempt in Tehran following the Islamic Revolution.
