US VP Vance outlines Iran deal terms, criticizes Israeli strike in Beirut

Vice President J.D. Vance detailed key aspects of a US-Iran deal at a press conference. He reported 12.5 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz last night, the highest since the conflict began. Vance said Iran won't receive deal benefits if it doesn't change behavior, but argued it's worth trying. On missiles, Iran retains defensive rights but must limit development of globally threatening capabilities. Regarding Israel-Lebanon, Vance expects Hezbollah to stop firing at Israel and Israel not to "go on a rampage in Lebanon," while affirming Israel's right to self-defense. He criticized a recent Dahieh attack, saying "We were right on the verge of a significant breakthrough in the agreement, and then suddenly a big explosion occurs in the heart of a civilian area in Beirut." On sanctions, Vance argued they were ineffective at stopping oil sales but pushed Iran into "shadow banking," and lifting them would provide better financial transparency.
