US struggles to convince Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon, seeks Iranian help
The US has informed Iran it faces significant difficulties convincing Israel to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar. Diplomatic sources say Washington requested Iranian assistance in persuading Hezbollah to withdraw from the south to facilitate efforts to convince Israel. Iran's delegation responded that Hezbollah is an internal Lebanese matter, adding Tehran does not oppose Lebanon and Israel reaching an agreement on a timetable for rapid Israeli withdrawal.
