The Prime Minister's Office announced on Wednesday that Benjamin Netanyahu has completed a secret diplomatic mission to the United Arab Emirates. During the visit, which took place while the Israeli military was actively engaged in Operation "Lion's Roar," Netanyahu met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to finalize what officials are calling a historic breakthrough in bilateral relations.

This diplomatic move follows weeks of tightening security ties between the two nations. According to international media reports, Israel has recently transferred several advanced air defense systems to the UAE, ranging from the Iron Dome to other sophisticated interception methods. These reports further suggest an unprecedented level of cooperation, claiming that Israeli soldiers are currently on Emirati soil to operate the equipment and provide direct training to local forces.

The urgency of this alliance is highlighted by the scale of threats facing the Emirates. Throughout the current war, Iran has directed more fire toward the UAE than any other country, including Israel, launching more than 2,800 missiles and drones at the Gulf state. To counter this, the Financial Times reported that Israel has also provided laser defense systems and other protective technologies to help the UAE withstand the ongoing barrage.

The defense cooperation has reached such a peak that it includes the deployment of the Iron Dome, a system so sensitive that Israel has previously only sold it to the United States. While the UAE has purchased other systems like the Barak MX and Spyder in the past, the presence of IDF personnel to manage active air defenses marks a significant shift in regional dynamics.

The diplomatic breakthrough was first reported by Channel 13 and later confirmed by the Prime Minister's Office. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee alluded to the deepening ties during a conference at Tel Aviv University, expressing hope that the Gulf states now realize Israel is not an enemy but a vital protector. "Choose a side," Huckabee urged, while noting that the U.S. remains committed to ensuring Iran never achieves nuclear capabilities.

The visit also coincided with reports from the Wall Street Journal indicating that UAE forces may have even conducted secret military strikes within Iranian territory earlier in April. While the UAE has officially denied such actions, reports of a major fire at the Lavan Island refinery suggest that the regional shadow war is rapidly expanding.
