Iran threatens UAE over Netanyahu visit

Iran's Foreign Ministry has issued a sharp statement following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United Arab Emirates, condemning the diplomatic move and sending a direct warning to Gulf and regional states against what it termed the "very dangerous consequences" of Israeli presence.

Netanyahu's undisclosed visit to the UAE took place last Sunday, when he met with Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed. Senior Israeli security officials attended the meeting, including the head of the National Security Council, the Mossad director, the military secretary and the political adviser. According to reports, representatives from ten countries were present at the gathering, among them Saudi Arabia, the United States, Morocco, Kuwait, Bahrain, Libya, Oman and Egypt.

In its official statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry addressed regional states directly, calling on them to exercise caution in deepening ties with Israel. "There is no doubt, in light of the proven hostility and hatred of the Zionist regime toward Iran and other countries in the region, as well as its repeated threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran, that all countries in the region must show vigilance regarding the consequences of such a presence," the statement read.

The Iranian response comes against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Tehran and Gulf states that have drawn closer to Israel in recent years. The United Arab Emirates signed the Abraham Accords with Israel in 2020, and relations between the two countries have since deepened significantly in the economic, security and diplomatic spheres.

Alongside the Iranian reaction, Israeli diplomatic activity in the region continues. According to reports, the UAE meeting took place in two stages — in the first stage, Netanyahu and bin Zayed met with Israeli and Emirati representatives only, and only later did representatives of the other countries join the expanded portion of the meeting.
