Musician Critiques Social Media Era

Bar Alphandary's new single "Algorithm" questions whether classic artists could succeed in today's content-driven culture

Israeli musician Bar Alphandary

Israeli musician Bar Alphandary has spent years creating albums and performing live, but recently found himself thrust into the media spotlight for an entirely different reason: a spontaneous video featuring his son that went viral and landed him on prime-time television news.

On the morning his phone wouldn't stop ringing with calls from media outlets, Alphandary gained a new perspective on contemporary culture, one that inspired "Algorithm," his energetic new pop-punk-rock single.

The track takes a humorous yet sobering look at a reality saturated with content creators but increasingly empty of genuine substance. Rather than surrender to the trend, Alphandary responds with driving guitars, an anthemic chorus, and lyrics that pose a pressing question: where does music fit in anymore?

"'Algorithm' started with a question I couldn't shake: would the artists we grew up with even succeed today?" Alphandary explains. "In the past, an artist was busy creating. Today they're busy figuring out what to post, when to post it, and how to turn it into a trend. Oh, and if there's time left over... maybe also make some music."

The result is a restless rock anthem that reminds listeners what truly matters amid the noise of social media.
