"You’ll Honour My Son"

The Emotional Gift Edan Alexander Received From Witkoff after Escaping Hamas Captivity

Steve Witkoff gifted recently released hostage Edan Alexander the Magen David necklace once worn by his late son, Andrew, in a moving display of solidarity and hope. Witkoff, instrumental in negotiating Alexander's release, told him, “You will do great honour to my son if you continue to wear it.”

In a deeply emotional gesture following the dramatic release of American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander, U.S. Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff presented Alexander with a necklace bearing a Star of David that once belonged to Witkoff’s late son, Andrew. The touching moment came during a private meeting between the two on Tuesday, just one day after Alexander was freed from Hamas captivity after 584 harrowing days.

Witkoff’s son, Andrew, passed away at a young age. For over two decades, Witkoff had worn Andrew's Magen David necklace close to his heart. Now, that meaningful piece of jewelry has been passed on to Edan Alexander as a symbol of strength, resilience, and connection.

“You will do great honor to my son if you continue to wear it,” Witkoff told Alexander during their meeting.

Witkoff has played a key behind-the-scenes role in securing the release of Edan Alexander. As a trusted advisor to former President Donald Trump and an envoy involved in diplomatic outreach in the Middle East, Witkoff worked in close coordination with U.S. and Israeli officials to broker Alexander’s freedom. He was part of the team, including former Trump administration official Adam Boehler, that navigated sensitive diplomatic channels with key regional players, particularly Qatar.

Alexander, who had been held by Hamas in Gaza since October 7, 2023, endured brutal conditions in underground tunnels with little food, water, or medical care. His release was part of a complex and delicate negotiation effort, widely seen as a humanitarian gesture orchestrated largely by the United States.

Following his release, Alexander shared his first post on social media: a photo of himself smiling under the Israeli sun, wearing sunglasses and holding a beer, with the words “Home sweet home.” The image has quickly become symbolic of hope for the return of other hostages still held by Hamas.

This heartfelt moment between Witkoff and Alexander is being seen as a testament to the emotional and human toll of the hostage crisis, and a reflection of the bonds formed through extraordinary circumstances.
