A vehicle exploded and caught fire Tuesday on Achi Eilat Boulevard in Haifa, with fire and rescue crews rushing to the scene after reports that a man had been trapped inside the burning car. Magen David Adom paramedics initially reported finding an unconscious man trapped in the vehicle, and after rescue crews extricated him, his death was pronounced at the scene.
Senior Magen David Adom motorcycle unit paramedics Gil Pasha and Yoad Amar, along with paramedic Nitzan Ben Avu, described arriving at a chaotic scene. "We received a report of a car that had exploded. When we reached the site of the explosion, we saw chaos and a burned vehicle with severe damage, giving off heavy smoke. Once firefighters completed the rescue operation, we were brought a man who showed no signs of life and had suffered extremely severe, multi system trauma. We were unfortunately forced to pronounce his death at the scene."
Police forces remain at the scene investigating whether the incident was an accident or involved suspected criminal activity. Police sappers and officers from the Haifa District are currently handling the scene of a burning vehicle in which an unconscious man was found and treated by medical personnel on site, gathering evidence and findings alongside extensive searches as part of an investigation that has been opened, police said in a statement.
The victim's identity has not yet been determined.
