The Eidah Haredit (the ultra-Orthodox rabbinical court in Jerusalem) released a letter over the weekend with a stark title: "Our Young Men Have Gone into Captivity." It was a call to arms, basically. Show up to protest, they told the community. Persuade the recruits not to go through with it.
"Our strength lies only in our voice," the letter read. They urged people to convince young men "lest their feet slip," using language that made enlisting sound like walking into the abyss. The court framed it as standing guard over Judaism itself.
By Sunday morning, the protests were already starting outside the induction facility. Israeli police moved in, bracing for confrontations. The IDF got ready to process recruits like it was any other day, keeping operations normal despite the chaos outside.
