The Great Divide

“Learn Some Humility”: Father of Slain Soldier Ron Sherman Blasts Freed Hostage in Shocking Post

The father of slain soldier Ron Sherman issued a blistering public message to freed hostage Eitan Mor, telling him to learn humility and show gratitude to the thousands who protested in the rain for his release.

A Clash of Values and Gratitude

The return of twenty living hostages has brought immense joy to Israel, but it has also reignited deep divisions regarding the tactics used to secure their release. Alex Sherman, whose son Ron was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7 and later tragically killed in captivity as a result of an IDF strike near his location, took to Facebook to criticize Eitan Mor for his recent comments.

During a hospital visit from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Eitan Mor shared a conversation he had with a senior Hamas terrorist leader. Mor claimed the terrorist told him, "If anyone is going to be the first to leave, it’s you. Anyway, your father doesn’t go out to the protests, so we’ll return you first." Eitan is the son of Zvika Mor, a leader of the Tikvah Forum, which opposed the mass street demonstrations in favor of military pressure.

Alex Sherman called Mor ungrateful, describing him as a product of a "different world view and scale of values." Sherman argued that the protests were essential, asserting that the massive crowds in Hostages Square influenced US President Trump to broker the deal. "You, Eitan Mor, were returned alive thanks to IDF soldiers, but also, and no less, because of those thousands who bothered to leave their homes in the heat, cold, and pouring rain to demand your return home. Alive, now!" Sherman wrote.

The Call for Humility

Sherman expressed that he expected a freed captive to show sensitivity and a "bowing of the head" toward those who dreamed of seeing him reunited with his family, even if they were from a different political camp.

"You should learn a little humility," Sherman added. "In your position as a survivor of captivity, I would expect you to weigh your words and especially to acknowledge and thank even those who fought for you in the squares, at the intersections, and on social networks."

Sherman concluded his emotional post with a sharp piece of advice for the young survivor. "You know, you’re still young, you’ll learn, sometimes it’s simply better to remain silent. That too is fine," he said.

The debate highlights the complex emotional landscape in Israel following the deal, as families who lost loved ones in captivity confront the different ideologies of those who have finally returned to their families.
