Israeli military commanders are pushing back against a prime ministerial directive to halt fire in southern Lebanon, according to a senior security correspondent, with soldiers on the ground furious at being ordered to stop just as they closed in on one of Hezbollah's most significant command centers in the al-Yatir area.

The order to cease fire across all operational sectors was issued by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approximately two hours ago and transmitted down the chain of command, i24News' correspondent reported. But the timing has ignited anger among frontline fighters: IDF forces were positioned directly adjacent to a major Hezbollah headquarters in the al-Yatir area, a facility that cannot be neutralized from the air and that serves as the nerve center for the group's drone, UAV, and anti-tank missile launches in the sector.

Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to hold its fire in Lebanon following coordination between the political echelon and the United States, according to Channel 12.

The IDF, the correspondent said flatly, opposes the ceasefire. The military wants to complete the mission, arguing that dozens of Hezbollah operatives are currently trapped inside the compound. Senior officers are warning that halting operations now, with the objective in reach, squanders a rare tactical opportunity that airpower alone cannot replicate.

Beyond the strategic cost, commanders say the order is creating real danger for the soldiers themselves. The directive from the political echelon limits the IDF to "threat removal only," a posture that strips away the advantages that make Israel's military effective. Against a guerrilla organization on its home turf, operating in threat-removal mode neutralizes the IDF's technological edge and its ability to integrate air and ground firepower, leaving troops more exposed. Field commanders are demanding their freedom of maneuver be restored immediately.

Hezbollah stated it had targeted IDF soldiers in southern Lebanon and would not hesitate to confront any Israeli attempt to seize land, even as it claimed commitment to the ceasefire. The correspondent noted that Hezbollah is exploiting the pause to harass and tail IDF units, compounding the danger faced by soldiers ordered to hold their positions.

There is also a broader strategic critique. Iran, the correspondent argued, is succeeding at precisely what Israel sought to prevent: severing the connection between Jerusalem and Washington. Israel went to war to decouple Iran from its proxy networks, yet the ceasefire dynamic is now driving a wedge between Israel and its most critical ally. The correspondent added that this outcome runs counter to American interests as well, because the current arrangement only strengthens Hezbollah and weakens the Lebanese government.

The IDF's expectation, the correspondent concluded, is that the hold-fire directive will be short-lived and that authorization to resume full combat operations will be granted.
