IDF forces operating in southern Gaza destroyed an underground tunnel network containing dozens of rockets as part of ongoing operations to eliminate terror infrastructure east of the Yellow Line, military officials announced Tuesday.

Forces from the paratrooper combat team operating under Gaza Division (143rd) located the tunnel route during operations to clear the southern sector. The underground facility was rigged with weapons and ammunition stockpiles, according to the IDF statement.

The tunnel was destroyed in coordination with combat engineers from Gaza Division and the elite Yahalom Unit, the military's specialized combat engineering corps tasked with detecting and neutralizing underground terrorist infrastructure.

Operational Procedures

The operation followed standard IDF protocol for tunnel destruction. In footage released by the IDF, a military working dog equipped with a body camera—operated by the Oketz Unit, the IDF's K-9 unit—was deployed to survey the tunnel before demolition. The use of dog reconnaissance allows forces to detect booby traps and explosives rigged inside tunnel shafts before soldiers enter the area.

"Troops continue operations to purify the Yellow Line area from terrorist infrastructure both above and below ground," a Gaza Division statement said.

The destruction of this tunnel is part of sustained operations by the IDF in Gaza under the ceasefire framework. IDF Southern Command continues to locate and demolish Hamas tunnel networks and weapons caches throughout southern Gaza in areas east of the Yellow Line—the demarcation line established under the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement.

Earlier operations in July by the 188th Armored Brigade operating under Gaza Division dismantled more than 10 Hamas tunnel routes, uncovering extensive caches of rockets, rocket launchers, grenades, explosive devices, and assault rifles. One tunnel discovered near Khan Yunis was found to contain three living quarters and dozens of weapons, suggesting use as a command and operational center.

Weapons Discovery

The IDF has documented repeated violations of the ceasefire by Hamas, including attempts to rebuild weapons caches and restock rocket arsenals in underground facilities. The discovery of this tunnel—stocked with dozens of rockets—indicates ongoing efforts by terrorist organizations to reconstitute military capabilities despite the ceasefire framework.

"Troops under Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and continue operations to neutralize any immediate threat and safeguard the security of western Negev residents," the IDF stated.
