IDF Special Forces Capture Senior Terror Commander in Southern Lebanon Raid

Israeli special forces conducted a targeted operation in a village in southern Lebanon, capturing a senior commander of the terrorist organization Jemaah Islamiyah (JI), according to reports circulating from Israeli intelligence and defense sources.The raid, carried out by an elite IDF unit, involved ground forces entering the village to apprehend the operative. Details about the specific location and the commander’s identity remain limited for operational security reasons, but sources describe him as a high-value target involved in regional terrorist activities.
Jemaah Islamiyah, a Southeast Asia-based Sunni Islamist terrorist group with historical ties to al-Qaeda, is best known for deadly attacks including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed over 200 people. The group has long been designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States, and many other countries. While primarily active in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, intelligence reports have occasionally noted its efforts to expand networks and collaborate with other jihadist factions in the Middle East.
This operation comes amid heightened Israeli efforts to disrupt terrorist infrastructure in Lebanon, particularly in the south, where groups aligned with or supportive of the Iran-backed “Axis of Resistance” have operated. Southern Lebanon has seen repeated IDF actions against Hezbollah and affiliated Sunni militants, including the Lebanese Islamic Group (Jamaa Islamiya), whose armed wing has fired rockets toward Israel in recent years.
The IDF Spokesperson stated:
During a nighttime operation in the Mount Dov region of Southern Lebanon, forces from the 210th Division apprehended a senior operative of the Al-Jama'a al-Islamiyya terrorist organization.
Following intelligence gathered over recent weeks, IDF troops raided a building overnight Sunday, where they captured the senior operative. Weapons were also located inside the structure. The individual has been transferred to Israeli territory for further interrogation.
The Al-Jama'a al-Islamiyya organization has promoted and continues to attempt terror attacks against the State of Israel and its citizens in the northern sector throughout the war. The IDF will continue to act to remove any threat to the State of Israel."
